Where the Beans Come From

Of all the origins Nespresso tried from around the world, they selected some of the finest Colombian and Ethiopian Arabicas for Scuro. The aromatic potential of these two coffees is punchy and promises a harmonious composition of tastes that land with precise balance when you add milk. Both sweet dairy notes and a roasted coffee character make this their intense, yet balanced coffee with milk — because not all coffees interact well with dairy, and Scuro was built from the ground up for that ideal partnership.

How It Is Roasted

The art of roasting calls for a fine balance of temperature, roast time and bean colour — and getting it just right is key to striking that great harmony of coffee with milk. Nespresso tested many combinations until they discovered that Scuro needed an extremely contrasted split roasting technique. One part of the blend gets a long and dark roast for body, while the other is roasted much faster and lighter to retain unique aroma notes. When you combine the two, the blend develops that special roasty character that goes so well with the sweetness of milk — roasting rates 2 out of 5.

Cappuccino (recommended): Brew 25 ml of coffee (ristretto) over 60 ml of hot frothed milk for the ultimate balance of intense roast and milky sweetness.

Cappuccino — espresso base: Alternatively, brew a 40 ml espresso shot over 60 ml of hot frothed milk for a slightly longer, fuller serve.

Latte Macchiato: Pairs perfectly with larger quantities of steamed milk without losing its distinct coffee character — ideal for a longer milk recipe.

Espresso Macchiato: Brew 40 ml espresso with two spoons of milk foam to retain the strong coffee character with just a touch of dairy sweetness.
